Why can’t I login?
Outdated login data
Issues can sometimes occur if you’ve used multiple OCLC accounts, devices, or networks. When you sign in, your browser stores small pieces of information (known as cookies) to confirm your access and permissions. Over time, this information can become outdated or conflict with your current session, which may prevent you from logging in successfully.
This data may not be synced across different devices and browsers, so may sometimes affect some devices and not others.
Inactive accounts
If you have previously used a device to access a Dalton McCaughey Library or University of Divinity SSO (Single-Sign-On) account that is no longer active—or that now accepts a different username or password—you may have difficulty accessing your current account on that device.
Using an email address or password set before July 2025
Members will not be able to access their Dalton McCaughey Library account if logging in with an email address or a password set before July 2025. Access with a Dalton McCaughey Library account from July 2025 requires the use of your member barcode and a (reset) password. Make sure any login details saved on your device are current.
Expired account
The date in which your account will expire depends on when your account was registered and renewed, and your type of membership. If you are a paying private member, your membership will generally expire at 6-month or 12-monthly intervals. If you have an account through the University of Divinity, you will generally need to be actively enrolled in a course as a student or actively registered as a staff member or research fellow.
Incorrect account type
There are two account types for accessing Dalton McCaughey Library’s collections and services online.

- Dalton McCaughey Library
If you are not a current student, faculty or staff member of the University of Divinity (as below) and are a member of the library, select “Dalton McCaughey Library”. You will sign in with your Dalton McCaughey Library member barcode and password. - Pilgrim and Trinity Colleges
If you are currently employed, enrolled or approved for research by the University of Divinity through Pilgrim Theological College or Trinity College Theological School, select “Pilgrim and Trinity Colleges”. You will sign in with your University of Divinity SSO (Single-Sign-On) account.
When logging into the Dalton McCaughey Library catalogue, ensure you select the option that matches your account type.
Multiple University of Divinity accounts
If you are both a student and staff member of the University of Divinity you will have a different SSO (Single-Sign-On) account for each role. You will need to log in with a different username and password for each account. While the username field accepts an email address for both accounts, you may have difficulty using your email address if this address has also been used for another active or expired account. Try using your student ID number or staff name instead of your account email address.
If you have had multiple roles at the University of Divinity, make sure you are using the username and password linked to your current active staff role or student enrolment. The University of Divinity has helpful guides for confirming your username, and setting and resetting your password.
Try this
Try logging in with Private Browsing mode as a first step. If you are able to log in successfully, this suggests that stored browser data may be causing the issue and you may need to clear cookies on your device.
Private Browsing opens a fresh browser session without using previously stored data. Any new data created during this session is removed when the window is closed.
Private Browsing in different browsers
| Browser | Mode name |
|---|---|
| Mozilla Firefox | Private Browsing |
| Safari | Private Browsing |
| Microsoft Edge | InPrivate |
| Google Chrome | Incognito |
Private Browsing mode is usually available from your browser menu as New Private Window (or similar).
Once you have logged out of your SSO (Single-Sign-On) account on all devices, try logging in again.
Try logging in with Private Browsing mode first. If this resolves the issue you should remove cookies. Please note that removing cookies will sign you out of most websites on your device.
To remove cookies:
- Open your browser settings
- Locate Privacy or History
- Select Clear browsing data (or similar)
- Choose to remove cookies (other data can remain selected or unselected as preferred)
- Select a time range (you may need to choose All time to remove older data)
- Confirm your selection
You can then try logging in again.
